Computer Science PhD students, Angela Dean and Mark Doderer, were among those honored on April 30 for teaching excellence at a ceremony hosted by the UTSA Teaching and Learning Center and the Graduate Student Association. At the ceremony, they were both recognized as Outstanding Teaching Assistants. Both Ms. Dean and Mr. Doderer are dedicated teachers and have taught several undergraduate courses for the department.
Mr. Doderer, who is advised by Kay Robbins, advanced to candidacy fora PHD in 2006. His research focuses on facilitating biologic discovery through data exploration, use of belief networks, and prediction. Ms. Dean, who is advised by Jianhua Ruan, began her graduate work at UTSA in 2006 and is working on developing techniques to analyze the regulatory networks that control gene expression. She has also been featured in an article in Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology on women and minorities in graduate computer science and information technology programs.
