Faculty Position in Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for one tenure/tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level, starting Fall 2008. All areas of computer science will be considered but preference will be given to candidates in software engineering. The current faculty expansion is related to the University's effort of reaching Carnegie Classification of doctoral/research (Carnegie I) by 2010. We are particularly interested in senior applicants with established records of research and external funding.

Required qualifications: Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must have earned a Ph.D. prior to September 1, 2008, in Computer Science or in a related field and must demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research and teaching.

Applicants for an Associate Professor position must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field and should have an established research program in their area of specialization.

Applicants for a Full Professor position must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field and previous experience in graduate and undergraduate teaching and academic program development as well as a recognized program of research.

Responsibilities include research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and program development. Salary and start-up supporting packages for the positions are highly competitive.

The Department of Computer Science currently has 25 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees supporting a dynamic and growing program with over 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The research activities and experimental facilities have been well-supported by various Federal research and infrastructure grants. The University is the largest public university in south Texas serving over 28,000 students. The city of San Antonio has a population of over one million and is known for its rich Hispanic culture, historic attractions, affordable housing, and excellent medical facilities. Major computer industries are located in San Antonio and Austin, TX located 75 miles away. Nearby higher education and research institutions include UT Health Science Center and Southwest Research Institute.
