I am an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I am the chair of the Faculty Senate, the head of the Computational Biology Initiative, the Communications Director of the Department of Computer Science, and the Faculty Advisor for the Association of Computing Machinery student chapter.
My research interests are Algorithms and Data Structures, in particular Computational Geometry and Shape Matching, as well as Discrete Mathematics and applied areas such as Computational Biology and Intelligent Transportation Systems. In 2007 I won an NSF CAREER award on "Application and Theory of Geometric Shape Handling" and I am the principal investigator on a $1.9M NIH grant funding the RCMI Computational Systems Biology Core Facility at UTSA.
