Notes:
  1. Weekly Quizze: On each Friday class (the first one on January 28 and the last one on April 28 -- skipping January 21) there will be a short quiz over readings and over the material recently covered. This is 13 quizzes. I will drop the two lowest grades, so only the top 11 count. In general I will not be giving make-up quizzes, so you need to save up your misses for times when you have to miss.

  2. One-page Essays: These will have a topic assigned ahead of time and will always be due on a Wednesday.

  3. Group Class Presentation: This will involve a class presentation by different groups of students on a topic relevant to the course. Students who cannot conveniently participate in this activity for some reason will need to do a book report in its place.

  4. Web Resource Project: This is a separate project for each student, in which the student researches a topic on the web and produces information and links to relevant sites.

  5. Attendance: Attendance will be given just as a percentage of the 43 classes attended. I will allow three misses without penalty, so attending 40 classes (including exams) will give you full credit for this part. However, you should not waste these three free misses, since I will not be considering excused absenses.

In order to facilitate attendance taking, I ask that you choose a fixed seat early in the semester and stick with that location. (Most people do this anyway.) If you need to alter your seat for some reason, just let me know. "Attending a class" is defined as being present for 80% of the class. (I'll take attendance in the middle of the class period.) Early in the semester I'll pass around an attendance sheet for you to sign, and later I may just note down attendance. On Fridays I'll use your quiz to keep track of your attendance.

  6. Final Exam: This will be comprehensive over the entire course. Here is last semester's final,
