Exam 1, Fall 2005

Sample Questions: I will pick simple questions about many of the topics from the web pages and from class. Often it will involve giving you some code and asking you to explain, modify, or complete the code. There will be two types of questions.

Identify parts of a class: I will give you most or all of an example class, along with a "test" class containing a main method. This might be similar to (and simpler than) the Student and StudentTest classes above. Then I will ask you to identify parts of them, and answer questions about them. For example, identify the data members, the constructor(s), the accessor methods, the helper methods, the actual parameters to one of the constructors, the formal parameters to one of the constructors, code in the main function that creates an instance of the given class, and so forth.
Add to and complete a class: I will give you part of another example class, and ask you to complete some parts and to fill in other parts that are not given. For example, I might give you part of one of the four classes we had in the lectures: BankAccount, Car, SavingsAccount, or Student. Some of the constructors or methods could just be stubs, with you asked to complete the given component.
I might leave off the separate class with the main function, and ask you to supply it. In this case I would give instructions, such as: "Create an instance of the Car class with such and so properties", and so forth.
Exactly the questions and requested items in the official review related to the Employee class are what I might ask. I will not ask for what the lectures refer to as "the public interface".
