Grading Policy, Spring 2000

Factors Determining Grade (with percentages):

Notes:

  1. A single programming project extends in six parts throughout the semester. (See Lectures and Assignments.)

  2. Five homework assignments are interspersed. (See Lectures and Assignments.)

  3. Seating for exams will be assigned, either alphabetic or reverse alphabetic order. In general I don't give makeup exams, but just count the other course elements for greater credit.

  4. Credit for attendance will be given just as a percentage of the 29 classes attended. I will allow two misses without penalty, so attending 27 classes (including exams) will give you full credit for this part. However, you should not waste these two free misses, since I will not be considering excused absenses.

In order to facilitate attendance taking, I ask that you choose a fixed seat early in the semester and stick with that location. (Most people do this anyway.) If you need to alter your seat for some reason, just let me know. "Attending a class" is defined as being present for 80% of the class. (I'll take attendance in the middle of the class.)

  5. Assignments are due at the start of class on the due date, always a Wednesday. There will be a 10% penalty for late programs turned in before the weekend, and a 25% penalty for programs turned in on Monday, after the weekend. Programs will not be accepted after the Monday following the Wednesday deadline. (Thus programs must be turned in no later than the following class period.)
